I rather like Schlotsky's and used to go to the Parklane location fairly often when I worked at home, and when it was still open. To my mind, the sourdough buns differentiate their sandwiches from all the sub places in a pleasing way, if that's what I'm in the mood for. And Cinnabon, of course, is pure sticky goodness, one of the few things I used to look forward to in going to airports.

I believe the closing of this store leaves the Dutch Square location on Bush River Road as the last one in the metro area, and I'm afraid it was looking a bit down-at-the-heels last time I dropped by.

(I note that the roadside marquee still lists Jamestown Coffee. And what's up with that balcony?).

UPDATE 16 October 2013 -- This place is now well underway to becoming a Zoe's Kitchen:

  1. I enjoyed eating at this one several times. I'd eat their pizza typically.

Cinnabon is now available in Burger Kings as well.

  2. I'm not surprised they closed. They struggled from the very beginning with their employees. And their Carvel soft serve machine was always broken. A year or so ago, I would often go to Jamestown to get some work done and enjoy some great coffee and then swing through the drive through here to get a soft serve. Sadly, their machine broke and they never got it fixed. This led to personal disappointment over and over again and I vowed not to return. If they'd been smarter, they would have taken down the Carvel sign and focused on sandwiches.

And you're right, Dutch Square Schlotsky's sure looks like it's next, which makes me sad. While I don't care for Sourdough, I sure do like their dark rye.

  3. Not surprising to me either. I stopped by to inquire about purchasing Cinnabon's for tailgating and was told they stop making them after a certain time. The owner was featured in a magazine some time ago about young entrepreneurs. Hmmm - wonder what he's doing now.

  4. They used to have the $5 pizza deal on Mondays, which would include a drink. I would go to Dutch Square for that. They stopped offering it for some reason. Nobody could tell me why they stopped. You don't take things away like that. I stopped going.

  5. When this Schlotzsky came to my neighborhood I was glad because I enjoyed the Dutch Sq' location when I worked in that area about 4 years ago. The first few visits went well but then one weekend I tried their drive-thru.
Instead of regular iceberg lettuce, some nimrod put leftover stems of romaine lettuce on it. I didn't discover this until I got home. I should have drove back to show it to the manager but since I was starving; I ate the damn thing. Terrible!
Given the above posts, the owner should be redefined as an "entremanure".

  6. My wife and I decided to meet there after work once day to find that it was closed. We had just been there a week or so before that. They never were very busy when we visited.

  7. Just as bids go out on an Aldi that is to be built next door to this, construction dumpsters looked to be staged on the exterior of this building indicating that (most likely) something new is coming soon to this site (stay tuned for details as construction progresses)

  8. Andrew,

Where is that new Aldi going? I may have missed something on a post. This is the first I have heard of that.

    Thanks,
    William

  9. It's noted on the recent Bike To Nature post that bids have gone out for it at the intersection of US 378 and Hope Ferry Road...if you leave the Walgreens but cross Hope Ferry Road (but stay on the same side of 378), then you have the site it's supposed to go on.

  10. Signage for Zoë's Kitchen has now been installed on this building

  11. It appears that the catering company next door, "Stuffed" has now changed over to Applause Catering. I think I saw a new tenant for the Jamestown Coffee space as well.
