Brassworks, 4441 Devine Street: 2011 5 comments
(Ad from February 2008 Bellsouth directory)
This section of Devine Street, between Beltline and Fort Jackson Boulevard, has always had a different feel from the rest of the street. This little strip is the one-time home of Le Petit Chateau and Martin's Coffee House. Note that Brassworks took more than one street address as the door pictured is clearly labeled as 4439 Devine Street.
The Brassworks building, with its striking second story of windowed space suspended on columns over the sidewalk and coming much closer to the street than the rest of the surrounding single story buildings has always caught my eye. I'm not entirely sure what one brings to a brass-smith, but I'm sure I don't have it, and so unfortunately never took the opportunity to stop by.

That white terra cotta is really unattractive.

Ted I've always noticed that building too its most noticeable one in that strip. It's seems kinda like it was there before the other adjacent buildings whether or not that is in fact the case

They sold fancy lamps and other high-end (for me anyway) home decor stuff. Kinda like the old Baldwin Brass shop that was on Harden St.

Walk around back of Brassworks and you will find a couple of walk up apartments in the same building. Someone still lives there so I didn't take any pictures. I think it would be neat to live there.

I frequent the Music Store next door to the Brassworks. They always had a lot of lamps in the window. I never went in though.
Bet Mar was in that strip mall as well. It was up towards the Beltline end. They moved to St. Andrews road. Bet Mar is a home brew store.
