Ollie's Gourmet Deli, 5454 Sunset Boulevard (Lexington): October 2011   9 comments

Posted at 12:42 am in Uncategorized

This link has a picture of the original Ollie's storefront, and gives their motto Everything But Subs, as does the store's web site. That strikes me as rather curious, because you don't get people in by telling them what you don't have, and I like subs. On the other hand, the menu has a number of things I definitely would eat though in the event I never knew the place was there.

As noted by commenter John R, the next incarnation is to be a chicken emporium: Wing Nuts.

  1. Thank goodness. We really need another wing place. I simply haven't gotten my fill from Wild Wing, Buffalo Wild Wing, Wings and Ale, Carolina Wings, Wing Zone, Wata Wing, and every single Chinese take-out restaurant in the city.

  2. And this is right next to the former coffee shop/Internet cafe which closed about a year ago -- 3 Bean Net Cafe. I tried Ollie's a few times and it was fine, but the hours were inconvenient and seemed to shift. The last two times I went by (mid and early afternoon) they were closed.

  3. Hey the sign says best Phillies in town and since Pauls Philly Eatery closed I've given up on finding a decent one. I will certainly offer this new establishment a chance with hopes they are not just another place stuffing some form of beef and cheese in a roll and calling it a Philly.

  4. @ Peter. D.L. McLaughlin's on Broad River Road between Irmo and Ballentine. Paul's was a Subway Philly Cheese compared to D.L.'s. Just bring a checkbook/cash. They don't take credit/debit.

  5. Well I will certainly be heading to D.L.'s thanks jonathan! I certainly would have never raved to folks back home about Paul's but thought the 2 times I ventured in it was decent enough although very pricey. I think my main draw was that he used amorosa rolls, always can make a subpar sandwich decent.

  7. Well I was heading out towards Lexington today and thought about giving this place a try. Not sure I want to waste my money though. Their website alone seems to be a sign of bad management/ownership. I mean seriously you go to the website and click menu and it has 4 different slides showing different parts of the menu. The slides automatically change IN 3 SECONDS. I tried to catch it all off a slide in the three seconds and watched each one twice and said the heck with it. Either the owner just hired any ol joe to do website and never checked it, very bad and slack, or they designed it themself and see nothing wrong, bad sign indeed. Granted it is not the most in depth menu but still 3 seconds, twas the most aggrivating website experience I've had for awhile.

  8. I must give credit where due. I emailed the contact address on the website to give them feedback of how awful the menu slideshow was and today it is changed to stationary, much easier to read pdf files. Kudos deserved for taking feedback serious and correcting issues! I change my position and have confidence in the owner now.

  9. 5/20/14, and Wing Nuts is still open... and the wings are actually pretty darned good.
I also had a cheesesteak from there, and it was excellent.
