Linens-n-Things, 10204-C Two Notch Road: October 2008 17 comments
This store has one of those vague names I dislike, or maybe half vague. I guess I wouldn't mind a vague name like Good Stuff, but when it's half specific and have vague (not to mention cutsey) like Linens-n-Things, I start to wonder What kind of things?. (As you might guess, I don't like Bed, Bath & Beyond as a name either..).
Linens-n-Things is in the new strip out on Two Notch near Sandhill which has Target and Michaels. It at one time also had OfficeMax, which is now a Haloween store (and which I would expect to close soon after the 31st). If I were Michaels, I'd be a bit worrried. Target is a destination store, and people are going to come out for it regardless, but the aggregate traffic for the strip as a whole is going to be hit pretty bad I would think.
It was raining pretty steadily when I took these pictures, and they had one of those guys who stands on the road and waves the closing/discount sign out on Two Notch getting thoroughly soaked. Normally October in South Carolina is about the best time and place to do something like that, but today he just ran out of luck.

When I went to kroger I saw that some guys that were doing work to this place.

I checked this afternoon and it appeared that the storefront that once held the Linens N Things lettering is being replaced in preparation for a new occupant but no sign just yet of who it might be...so I think we'll have to be on notice that something is moving in (but owner Selwyn Property Group has nothing on their site about this property the way most commercial real estate firms do) so stay tuned as details progress...

Ok so figure this one out: The existing Dick's Sporting Goods at Columbiana Station (1120 Bower Parkway) is app. 45K square feet and the new one going in will be app 25K square feet

Just like Best Buy is downsizing their new stores, Dick's may be doing the same thing. It costs a lot more $$ to run a retail establishment than to maintain an on-line presence. This may be the standard operating procedure of the future. Web sales peaked this year and will most likely only improve over time.
Look at Amazon..they do not own a single store.With only marginal improvements in the Columbia economy, I believe Ted will be kept busy in 2012 reporting additional store closings. A number of businesses were using their December sales as a barometer for slogging forward or throwing in the towel. We could see a lot of towels shortly.

I went to Michaels and there was a sign that said there moving to this location and leaving it's old store in mid February

I saw a Craigslist ad looking for staff at a new location but the letter matched where they currently are at this old site. The interior paint looks like it'd be a Micheals I noticed as well. The door arrangement and black cheatline (That I could see from the outside when illuminated properly) make sense as a Micheals. So it seems plausible that if Dick's is taking over the former OfficeMax as reported on that page that maybe Dick's will take over a portion of where Micheals currently is and then there might be some room for yet someone new to open where Micheals was (I'd guess somewhere in the neighborhood of 15-20K square feet once the dust settles) and then the 5-10K on the opposite side of Micheals new location...

folks, I can confirm that Micheal's has successfully transitioned into their new location in the former LnT spot. There's still a ≈5K square foot space available for something new that remains to be seen (I lack the psychic powers to know for sure)
the former OfficeMax is undergoing transformations to become the Northeast Richland location of Dick's Sporting Goods. Be that as it may, unless they take over a portion of the former Micheal's space (I could see that one going either way), it's going to be app. 25K square feet (the current location at 1120 Bower Parkway is app. 45K square feet)

Next door to this is in the process of becoming a Kirkland's...
When Selwyn Property Group acquired this a few years back , it was 60% vacant, now with Kirkland's it will be 100% occupied.

after the 31st the Halloween store morphs into a Christmas store and then it closes.
