Welcome Instapundit Readers!   6 comments

Thanks to Professor Reynolds for the link!

Anyone checking in here for the first time should know that this blog is Columbia South Carolina news and nostalgia, the "What's Not In Columbia Anymore" site. We have both business closings ripped from the headlines (ok, usually tipped by commenters, or things I notice as I drive by) and fondly rememered places which have been gone for years or decades.

If you're looking for a particular Columbia place you remember, check The Alphabetical Closings Page. For particular types of places, there are Categories on the left sidebar underneath the recent comments. Comments on any and all entries are welcome, as are general comments on the Have Your Say page.

Enjoy!

  1. I grew up in Columbia and lived there from 1968-1992. I'm glad Instapundit gave you the link! I am looking forward to going through your blog and seeing what you have photographed, although I might not even recognize many of the places anymore. My big memory before I left was the prison closing and Sydney Park being built.

  2. Kimberly,

    Welcome!

Yes, CCI is gone. I wish I had pictures, but all the buildings were torn down before I even started thinking about making a site.

  3. I too grew up in South Carolina, lived there for over 20 years, but my profession has taken me to Raleigh and now onto Nashville. I caught this link yesterday on Glenn's site and I've been reading ever since. We also have family in Pawley's -- some married in that church you took a picture of -- so I've especially enjoyed the Hurricane Hugo post. All in all, just a great site; for a guy in Tennessee, reading it feels like coming home.

  4. Thanks Andy!

There's a "grand-strand" category with some more coastal posts. You might enjoy this one on the Myrtle Beach Pavilion.
