Another Irmo area note from commenter Homer today:

It's not every day that I need a vehicle serviced so I had no idea that
this business had closed. Tony, the owner, passed away in October and
the family decided not to keep going. I didn't realize it but they had
been in business for 40 years. These guys were top notch when it came to
auto repair. I used to take my old Corvette in there for service and
Tony, Woody and all the guys there always did me right. A lot of people
are going to miss this place!!

I remember a shop in Fayetteville that clearly hadn't even looked at the reason I brought the car in when they called me to pick it up. Always nice to find someone who knows what they are doing!

(Hat tip to commenter Homer, of course)

  1. Folks this buliding has been demolished (and I have a feeling that the gas station next door won't be too far behind)...

  2. I noticed some fire trucks at the gas station today. Wonder if it mysteriously burned last night?

  3. I noticed that the pumps were removed and it looked like the merchandise had been stripped from the inside...but that's all I'm aware of...

  4. Back in the late 60's to early 70's, there used to be some kind of bar/grill that was on that corner where the gas station is, but I dont remember the name of it now. There also used to be another gas station there back in the 70's I think or very early 1980's, but I dont remember the name of that place now either.

  5. The convenience store is no more. A pile of rubble was all that remained this morning.

  6. I can't say I'm surprised...I had a feeling something like that would ultimately happen...my gut tells me that the combined property will wind up being something...I can't shake off the possiblity of a Walgreens (though I have my doubts considering the recent overhaul of a Rite Aid up the street) but I've also thought about an upgraded Circle K (or another gas station brand)...but whatever it winds up being I have my fingers crossed for something much better than the gas station that frankly was dingy...

  7. They are in the process of demolishing the Tripp's Cleaner's building next door to the convenience store as well.

  8. The Tripp's cleaner's building and the gas station have both been demolished and have sold to Circle K, who I assume will be constructing a new gas station/c-store.

  9. They'll build one of those large ones like they did towards Irmo going towards Friarsgate..which will make the Piney Grove-St. Andrews area one big mess. Good luck to those that live in that area.

  10. *facepalm* Folks going to that gas station routinely created a log-jam Thursday/Friday afternoons. Attempting to turn off St. Andrews into the gas station parking lot, while everybody else was waiting to turn left onto Piney Grove at the traffic light, always had that intersection backed up.

While I'm under no illusions about it actually happening, I *hope* Circle K, Irmo and/or DOT figure out a way to eliminate that particular traffic headache in the future.
