I thought for a few minutes about this place the first time I saw it, and decided that I hoped it meant meatball sandwiches, and not actual meatballs. Either way, it seemed like somewhat of an off-the-wall concept and I was saddened but not surprised to see it done up with butcher paper over the windows recently.

  1. I'm sure the Nazi SS symbol really helped business a lot.

  3. Wow, hard to believe a place that eye-catching would close. Maybe they just moved their "miminalist" signage and style to Columbia or Dutch Square Mall, where it wouldn't look quite so out-of-place.

  6. Hmmm.. Meatball Express, gives me reason.. to think, to wonder, to believe there is more to contemplate about the true meaning of life, that anyone, would want to express, name, think, or call something... Meatball Express. I will most likely come to be, without sleep tonight , pursuing, contemplating, and wondering why, I even care.
    Damn.

  7. It was a small little place with sort of a reggae vibe. The fellow that ran it was always friendly. Seemed like he had a regular crowd.

He changed the name to Meatball Express when he added the kitchen. I regret never having tried any his sandwiches. I used to stop in for a soda pop and a candy bar whenever I was downtown.

I hope he opens up somewhere else.

  11. I think Cali's Cafe is supposed to have some vegetarian options.
