  1. The only 2 I can think of that used to be were the Sears station at the mall and the Hess down past the K-Mart.

  2. Whoaaa! My fiancee and I came to that exact conclusion last Tuesday when we were driving in the direction of Sandhills from Fontaine/Two Notch, and the needle was sitting on empty.

  3. I think there used to be one. I can't remember the intersection, but it was on the left side of the road heading toward Cola Mall. I think it was at the cross street that had/has a big car dealership, which was an Acura dealership when it first opened. It seemed like it was a little elevated above Two Notch. Next time I'm in the area, I'll scope it out a little more closely and try to nail it down.

  4. Would that have been at Risley Road in front of Dentsville Mobile Home Supply?

  5. There was an Esso station (circa 1950-1960s) at the original intersection of Decker and Two Notch. Later it became an Exxon, Atlantic and an Arco. I think it went out of business in the late 1970s. There was also an American (later Amaco) at the original corner of Parklane and Two Notch in the 1960s, early 1970s.

But even back in thoise days I don't believe there was a gas station between that Esso and the old Phillips 66 on Fontaine and Two Notch.

  6. I think that's it. Risley at Two Notch, and someone in the "Po Folks" thread identified it as a Citgo.

  7. It looks (from Bing Maps) that there was one where Roof hits Two Notch. That building next to the motel looks like it might have been one, too (is that motel even there anymore? )

  8. Upon further review, I think the one people is trying to remember may have been a SOC station.

  9. There is still one on Shakespeare Rd., one street over from Two Notch right across from the Shamrock. I don't recall if it's a Shell or an Exxon, but the last time I went down that road, it was still a booming business.
