Steve's Classic Burgers, 612 Saint Andrews Road Suite 7: April 2025 13 comments
I hesitate to post a closing this far out, but The Free Times has already weighed in, so why not?
Steve's Classic Burgers opened in this little Saint Andrews Road strip mall back in 2015, and I admit I have never gotten around to trying it, though I have noticed the billboards from time to time. Ashland Park is just not really on my radar, and I don't think I have been back there since Sandy's closed. The place sounds as though they do a bit of outreach as well as cooking, with Bibles on the tables, something that puts me a bit in the mind of Edna's #2 on Pinehurst, which unfortunately I never got any pictures of before it closed and was torn down.
At any rate, with retirement and other issues to deal with, the owners have decided to close next Spring, so if you want to check it out, you still have time to make several visits.

I remember back in the late 90s it was the Lowcountry Cafe for a year or two. Went there many times for (AYCE!) crab legs and oysters. Maybe that's why they didn't last.

Just for completeness, I'll mention that Steve's started out at 817 St. Andrews Rd., in the rightmost portion of the building occupied by Cycle Gear. The opening year that you mention, 2015, is not the year they opened in Ashland Park; I know for a fact that they were still in the Cycle Gear building in 2017. 2015 may be the year they opened there. Then, sometime between 2017 and the present they moved to Ashland Park.

They did start at 817 St. Andrews as Payne indicated but they were behind Cyclegear (which BTW I remember being a Blockbuster that closed before any of the others did) a couple of doors down from Papa John’s on that end (last storefront before getting to Kay Street).
I’ve eaten there several times and have enjoyed it but it’s been a while…

I ate there once at the location in the Kroger plaza (now Roses) and once at the location in Ashland. Really good burgers and fries.

Andrew is correct. Steve's used to be behind where Cyclegear is now. That old Steve's location is now some kind of Jamaican eatery.
We ate at Steve's in the old location several times and always found it to be very good, but the couple of times we went once they moved to the Ashland location we didn't find the food to be nearly as good. I'm not sure why either as it was obviously prepared by the same people - perhaps their food supplier changed.
At any rate, I hate to see them close. They seemed like really nice people. When Calvary Irmo down from Ollie's had the big fire, Steve heard about it and offered to let the church to meet at his restaurant until the repairs had been completed. This was especially generous of them given that they went to a different church and actually had to miss going to theirs for awhile in order to have the restaurant open for Calvary to have their service there. Once Calvary finally got back into their building Steve's catered lunch there for everyone to celebrate.

I contend that "to the right of Cycle Gear" is more accurate than "behind Cycle Gear", but we're saying the same thing. :-)

I got the idea of "behind Cycle Gear" since it is in a different building than Cycle Gear is that is behind that...

There is no second building. Look at Cycle Gear on Google Street View. The portion of the building that Steve’s was originally in is now occupied by 5 Star Spa.

Steve's is where Calibash Caribbean is now. It was not in the spa building. Ive been to Steve's and Callibash many times.

Yes, I see now that I was mistaken. Not in the Cycle Gear building, but behind it, just as Andrew said. :-)

This site seems to have trouble keeping tenets. Its been home to a Yesterday's, a Chinese restaurant and a few other things over the last several decades,
