Does anyone know what is going on here?

They have forced Two Notch down to one lane turning onto Fontaine and one lane for through traffic and have had barrels up for at least six months, but even though I drive by there quite often, and frequently during prime work hours, I have never actually seen any crews or construction going on -- It's like they just plugged up the road for fun. I know the folks at China Hut & Ace Glass must be pretty sick of it by now.

  1. I pulled this up on SCDOT's project viewer site and it states that this bridge (which goes above CSX's rail line) is to be replaced.

During the wee hours of the morning, Amtrak's Silver Star passes underneath this bridge...Southbound route 91 comes from the Camden (CAM) station then stops at our station (CLB) (arriving at CLB at 1:41 am) on Pulaski Street before heading down to Denmark (DNK), Savannah (SAV) and then on down thorugh Florida while later on the Northbound train (departing CLB at 4:09 am) heads out to Camden (CAM), Hamlet (HAM), Southern Pines (SOP), Raliegh (RGH), Richmond (RVR), Washington, DC (WAS) and several other cities before getting to New York City's Penn Station (NYP) that evening (I wish we had more Amtrak routes but that's as good as we've got for now)...

BTW one of the pics on this post isn't displaying as intended due to something with an HTML tag it looks like...

  2. Oops, yep bad tag.

I've ridden the train to DC -- very civilized, but *slow*.

Maybe they should wait until they are ready to replace the bridge before messing with the traffic..

  3. @ted, I’ve been wondering the same thing. I can only assume they are doing utility relocation or work underneath the bridge we can’t see. City of Forest Acres had a rep from SCDOT at a council meeting recently and he was asked about this project, I believe his response was this was going to be a 2-2.5 year construction project.
