The Florence Fatz Cafe still has a billboard on I-95, and the music in the foyer is still playing, but like all the rest, this location is now history.

Apparently the Southern 500 had just been run, and I had a heck of a time getting out of here and back onto I-95!

  1. The last Fatz I ate at was the Camden location (212 Wall Street) and this one looked (at least from these pics) like I remember the Camden one looking.

There weren't that many people in it but since it as June 2021 I wondered if people still being careful about going out post-COVID was still a factor at that point but I remember everything going reasonably well with the meal and I also remember fondly the rolls that several other folks mentioned.

I think I might have eaten at this one with my folks once (it would have been somewhere in the 2003-06 range)...to my memories I ate at 6 or 7 different Fatz locations that were around...

  2. A former manager of the Orangeburg location at the intersection of US 601 & I-26 left the Orangeburg location and relocated to the Florence location several years ago. She was a pleasant person and did a really nice job in Orangeburg.

  3. @Ted, you are a brave man. You're lucky you're not still stuck in traffic, waiting to get onto I-95...

I'm very familiar with the Florence area and, two times you *do not* want to be in the vicinity are mid-May and the end of August. Darlington goes from being a town of roughly 8,000 to being a town of 90,000+. As you can imagine, this has a tendency to "complicate" logistics and life in that area...
