TCBY, 205 Columbia Avenue Suite A: Spring 2018 9 comments
Not very good pictures here as I was shooting against the sun, but it's what I have..
This TCBY was just past the closed Rite Aid at 500 West Main Street. The sign says they were open for thirty years, which is definitely a good run.
In fact, that pushes it almost back into the era when TCBY stood for This Can't Be Yogurt instead of The Country's Best Yogurt, or at least that's the way I remember it. The first froyo places had to combat the notion that yogurt was a sour curdled health-food that people in the Soviet Union ate if they wanted to live to be 130..

This place lasted as long for one reason -- it had a drive-thru and was fairly easy to get in and out of. Plus they only had 4-6 flavors at a time so your choices were limited. I think a lot of folks enjoy that simplicity as places like Yummilicious and Menchie's can be intimidating. They also would stay open extra late in the Fall after home football games, which is a good strategy.

I'm surprised that TCBYs are still around. Seems like they've been surpassed first by the Marble Slabs and Cold Creameries and later by the newer "mix-your-own" frozen yogurt places like Yummilicious and Sweet Frog, which I also hear are no longer trendy.
