Hampton Jaguar / Hampton Automotive, 3700 Fernandina Road: January 2014 11 comments
Well, a number of people have mentioned this place recently, and for that matter going back a good while, but for some reason, I just recently got around to visiting. It's quite a large and interesting property that is currently going to pot. I see from the real estate sign and LoopNet listing that it *is* on the market, but for whatever reason, it doesn't seem to be moving. Maybe $2,000,000 is just too much, though as I said it is a big property.
As nearly as I can tell based on this Facebook page, Hampton closed at some point between December 2013 and February 2014. In fact, we can corroborate with the Internet Wayback Machine, noting that the Hampton web site was up on 24 December 2013 and gone by 22 February 2014. (As an aside, it seems that phonebooks are less and less help for this sort of thing lately. For some reason the current Feb 2017 phonebook still has an active listing for Hampton..)
UPDATE 13 February 2020 -- It appears these buildings are being gutted:
UPDATE 13 September 2021 -- Floor & Decor is now in new construction on this site:

2014 sounds about right. After GM dropped the Pontiac brand in 2010 Hampton attempted to re-brand itself as a pre-owned dealership. That lasted several years until they finally closed shop.
Back in the 50's they sold Dodge and Studebaker vehicles. My Dad bought a 56 Dodge Coronet and a 59 Studebaker pickup from them. I think they were catty-cornered from the old Oliver Motors at Main and Elmwood. Or maybe a block down Elmwood. Jim Moore's Cadillac dealership was about a block down N. Main.

@ted - do you know if the old Hampton Pontiac building is still standing on Elmwood. I haven't been down that sttretch of road in quite a while.

Forgot about the post for the old location. Still an empty lot?

Actually I'm not sure. I have the feeling something was built, but I could be confusing it with somewhere else. I'll have to check.

I was past it before I could get any pictures, but it appears this is being gutted.

My big memory of that building was driving my car backwards through the fence in front of it. The one that separates the interstate and the frontage road. Then walking through the hole, and to the front desk to call home and tell my parents that I had totaled out the car. Ahh the mid 90's before cell phones were king.
