Burger King / TitleMax--CheckMax, 1400 Charleston Highway: 2009 9 comments
I don't know when this Burger King went under, but it may have never come back from that time in the 90s when the local franchisee (who owned all the Columbia BKs) got in a dispute with corporate and all Columbia Burger Kings closed. Eventually new ownership was found and a number of them came back (with special commercials featuring "Blues Doctor" Drink Small..), but several never did.
I'm not sure when the follow-on business: TitleMax/CheckMax closed, but I believe it was this year.
I find it rather interesting that the street number displayed on the building is clearly 1402, but google is adamant that the real number is 1400.

The first BK Lounge I think is the one at Two Notch, but not sure..or maybe the one over on Garners Ferry, but the one over in Cayce I do know was around back in 1965, but cant remember for sure what year it opened.

Del, the one on Devine (I'm guessing that's the one you're talking about) opened after the A&W burned, so it was probably around 1972 or so.

I found this image of the old BK logo. The oringinal street sign for this BK and Two Notch were large full color neon versions of it.

This never came back after all of 'em closed around 01. I liked this one cause the drive through was kind of like a bank.

The TitleMax signage appeared to be under removal as I passed it this afternoon...but I couldn't be for certain so keep your eyes open accordingly...

You know when all the BKs closed briefly in that dispute, there was one that remained open because it was under a different management group, in Riverbanks Zoo. But, I don't think it is now a Burger King, is it?

The Burger King at the Zoo is no longer...it is now a <a href="http://www.riverbanks.org/planvisit/assets/files/parkmap.pdf" Kenya Cafe
There was also one at 10030 Two Notch Road that never seemed to close that isn't a Brandi, Inc. one either (he invested in the Burger King franchise and brought them back after they closed under the original franchisee)

Wasn't it called the Kenya Cafe even when it was a Burger King? I may be wrong.

This was one of the first BK's in Columbia. I think Two Notch & Beltline was the oldest.
