Moon Halo: 27 November 2020 no comments
Somehow I spent my whole life without ever seeing such a thing, but apparently it's not uncommon:
A 22° halo is an optical phenomenon that belongs to the family of ice-crystal halos. Its form is a ring with an apparent radius of approximately 22° around the Sun or Moon. When visible around the Moon, it is called a moon ring or winter halo. It forms as direct sunlight or moonlight is refracted in millions of hexagonal ice crystals suspended in the atmosphere.[1] The halo appears large; its radius is roughly the length of an outstretched hand at arm's length.[2] A 22° halo may be visible on as many as 100 days per year – much more frequently than rainbows.
Somehow I still doubt that "more frequently than rainbows" part..
Remember Movies? 1 comment
As has been mentioned in Have Your Say several times today, Regal is re-closing its theaters Thursday after having reopened them (where it could) a month or so ago. The reason is pretty simple really: No Movies.
After the pulling of Wonder Woman, Black Widow, and as the last straw, James Bond, the theaters have nothing to show. Granted the box office of the few films that did limp out like Bill & Ted 3, New Mutants & Tenet was not good, but you have to keep the pump primed. It appears to me that the studios are cutting their own throats by letting the theater chains go under. Sure maybe you're not going to get your money back on the next few films, but you've got to keep people thinking about movies, and you're sure not going to get a billion dollar film over streaming.
In the meantime, I see that the St. Andrews bargain cinemas are doing what they can with screenings of classics like The Empire Strikes Back and Harry Potter.
Here's looking at you, kid

Whither Forward? no comments
As you have noticed, there have not been many posts in the past week or so.
While we are not under lock-down as a lot of other areas are, I have naturally been staying pretty close to home and not going out that much. I don't think this situation can last indefinitely, for one thing at some point the economy is destroyed and in some harsh calculus you have negated any good you might have done, but for the duration posts here will probably be pretty sparse.
I encourage everyone to continue commenting, either on this post, comment-appropriate posts or in Have Your Say, and to be careful and stay well.
