While I agree in theory that flame cooking burgers the way Burger King (and now Cookout) does is superior to griddle-frying them, for some reason that has never actually translated into my liking BK, or at least hasn't since I was in middle school or so. Perhaps I should give them another try as its been probably twenty years or so since I've had a burger there. At any rate, that won't be an option at this store on Sunset Boulevard by the Waffle House and I-26. Unlike the many remodeling BKs in Columbia, this one seems gone for good.

  1. Ted - Seems that it was you that I saw taking the pictures the other weekend. If you look in the background of the 13th pic (long shot of the sign) that's me in the Corvette waiting at the stop light coming off of Chris Dr.

While I usually agree that flame cooking, char broiling, or whatever the chains like to call it, sometimes nothing is better than a burger cooked on a WELL seasoned flat top griddle (ala Edna's or What-A-Burger).

BTW - Try the Ball Park frozen pre-cooked hamburger patties. Nuke 'em for a minute or so, pop a couple on a jumbo bun with all the fixin's, and you have a double burger that will rival anything BK ever put out!!!! Perfect for Super Bowl Sunday!!!!

  2. This one didn't surprise me for several reasons:

    - the I-26 billboard appears to have been removed (though it wasn't exactly the cleanest removal)
    - The I-26 exit signage was starting to direct peopel to the 3809 Sunset Blvd. location at Leaphart Road
    - Frankly, it was surprising to me that it stayed open after the aforementioned BK opened since 3809 Sunset in a position to draw from both I-26 and I-20

I'd like to see it become a Cookout...

  5. Up the road from this at SC 302 and I-26 is a Brandi, Inc. BK that is undergoing a remodel (wondering if it will have the Freestyle or not)...
