Family Video / Firehouse Subs / DigitalDoc, 4546 Hardscrabble Road: 17 May 2020 (etc) 10 comments
This whole little hilltop complex on Hardscrabble Road is now empty. I really like the glass block tower.
ColaDail reported on the closing of the main, video rental, portion of the building back in May, and I have used that 17 May 2020 date in the post title. It seems to me this was one of the last large video rental stores in the area, and outlasted Blockbuster by many years.
Commenter Bethany reported on 30 May that the Firehouse Subs here was closed as well.
DigitalDoc has not closed, but has relocated to 921-G Longtown Road.
As I said, I like the building, so I would prefer to see something new go in rather than it be razed and rebuilt. On the other hand, it is kind of moot for me, as I find getting out to this area is really as hard or harder than getting to Camden.
(Hat tip to commenter Bethany etc)
UPDATE 26 August 2020 -- As mentioned in the comments, the building is gone, and the Murphy Express is well underway:
UPDATE 30 September 2021: Update tags.

With the widening of Hardscrabble, this is going to be a prime corner property.

Ted, you forgot to get a picture of the (now gone) huge, self service, free standing, ice vending machine that was in the parking lot. As soon as the video store closed, the ice machine went also.

@Bethany, yup, I rode by Friday and it was gone. Rumor is that a Murphy's gas station is going there.

The tower is gone and they started on the gas station already. The overhead to the gas pumps are up.
