Until commener Justin pointed out that it was closed, I did not even know there was an Inn At Claussen's. It still seems a little mysterious to me as I can't find any public announcement of it closing anywhere. It looks to have been an interesting place, with some two story rooms with their own spiral staircases. The reviews are all over the map, but there are several mentions that the nearby trains are *loud*, which I can believe given the location of the tracks and trestle.

The web and facebook pages for the hotel are gone, but here is the Wikipedia page for the historic bakery

UPDATE 7 June 2019 -- The State says this space is being converted into 29 studio apartments. The story also confirms that the Inn closed due to the great flood of 2015.

  1. This place had been around for as long as I can remember. I have stayed there on two occasions way back in the early '90s. It was def a boutique style hotel for those special occasions. Very posh from what I can recall.

  2. I used to date a girl who worked there and yes all the rooms were very nice indeed! :-)

  3. I stayed here several times, mainly after parties in 5 Points where I knew I would be in no shape to drive. It was very nice for a small boutique hotel. Each room was unique; never stayed in two that were the same. The suites were very nice with a living area downstairs and a spiral staircase leading up to the sleeping area in a loft. Lower level rooms each had a patio area which came in very handy since the hotel was non-smoking. Hopefully being on the National Registry will save this building from being razed to construct some other damned thing for the university....

  4. Also stayed here one New Year's Eve night when I was going to a NYE party in 5 Points. I thought it was really nice at a reasonable price.

I think they somehow got hit hard by the flooding in October '15, or some other rain event afterwards, as I remember their official social media mentioning closing for renovations related to flood damage. Maybe it never panned out.
