Frank-n-Stein Restaurant / Stadium Steak House / Twin Peaks, 409 Blossom Street near the river: 1970s   15 comments

Frank-n-Stein's was a monster themed family restaurant. The building is still standing, and now houses, I believe, an Asian eatery, The Millienum Buffet. Before that, it was a strip club called Twin Peaks. I think there were a couple of other businesses in the building over the years as well.

Frank-n-Stein's was one of our spots for Sunday lunch. I don't recall if they actually had "monster" names for all the menu items, but they did have actual steins (glass mugs with handles), which was rather unusal, and they did have franks as well as burgers. I don't know what my parents thought about the place, or remember what they ordered, but they apparently liked it well enough that they wouldn't veto the suggestion.

As with a lot of places I went growing up, I can't remember the exact time it closed, but it was long gone by the time I started driving in the laste 70s.

UPDATE 2 April 2009: Added the street address, added the 1970 Yellow Pages ad, and corrected the name in the post title to reflect the official listing.

UPDATE 12 May 2010: Added Stadium Steak House & Twin Peaks to the post title. Also added the 1998 Bellsouth Yellow Pages ad for Twin Peaks.

UPDATE 13 Oct 2010: Added the Stadium Steak House ad from the 1975-1976 Southern Bell yellow pages.

  1. That's a riot! I'm very familiar with the building and area, but had never heard that. I assume Frank's was the original occupant? Sounds like a trip...

  2. I think it was the original, but I would have been too young to say with absolute certainty.

  3. Frank-n-stein was a concept developed by one of the Broome brothers but I don't remember if it was Doug ( Doug Broome's drive in at Main and Confederate ) or Gene ( Gene's Pig & Chik on Devine St. @ Fort Jackson Blvd.) The plan was to franchise the concept and get rich. This was in the 60's when franchising restaurants was getting big. The concept was beer and hot dogs.

  4. Interesting! I certainly remember "Gene's Pig & Chik" though I never ate there. It was quite a Five Points landmark.

  8. It would be so cool to have a restaurant themed like a haunted house, or a seafood place with a live mermaid theme. The more animated, the better. Then Columbia might become luke warm!!! Columbia hot? NOT!!

  11. Hi. I had a mug from this place, but unfortunately it got broken several years ago. I would love to have a replacement for it. If anyone here knows of one, please contact me at t2will@gmail.com. I will pay up to $25. Thanks!

  13. Hey Alan! Do you remember me? Brooke? Skinny, big boobs , blonde and hilarious? I loved Twin Peaks, always tried to keep up with people after I left, but so hard when you only know people by their stage names.
