Gamecock Stop / Mrs. Monogram / Boykin & Co, 2701-D Rosewood Drive: November 2014 4 comments
I first became aware of Gamecock Stop when it moved into the old Chippendolls location on Rosewood, and in fact I did a closing on it when it did a semi-move within that space.
After that, they they moved up Rosewood to 2701, a location for which I have done a number of closings. At some point after they moved, both Mrs. Monogram and Boykin & Co started sharing the space. I guess it's clear enough what Mrs. Monogram did, but I am unsure exactly what Boykin & Co, which had top billing in the final configuration, was.

I think Boykin & Co. was a reality, but I am not 100% certain.

This doorway will always be The Copper Door to me.

Dennis: It will be to me too...A very dear friend had the unfortunate circumstance to be at The Copper Door one night and was targeted by two men back in 1975. She "fit" the profile they were searching for. They followed her for several days and later kidnapped and slaughtered her when she was working late one night at a convenience store on Two Notch Rd. in Northeast Columbia...Her body was found 2 days later, horribly mutilated. It was a gruesome crime and I will forever associate this building with the terrible sequence of events that began there that night. I will always miss, love and remember her.

Somewhere in the 2002/03 timeframe, Gamecock Country was here and then they moved across the street into what was originally Smith's Hardware (next to what is now Rite Aid). I remember having a hard time understanding why they sold Clemson merchandise as well.
I also remember this spot getting an overhaul somewhere in that timeframe when Rockaway's burned. I've been to the rebuilt place a time or two with family and liked it fine but wish I had folks besides family to enjoy restaurants like that with as I am not keen on eating at restaurants like that solo for some reason. Not only that, George Walker Bush ate there at one point during his presidency when he was in Columbia...
