Doc's Gumbo Grille / Back Porch Cafe, 1616 Gervais Street: March 2014 6 comments
Until commenter James reported this place closed, I had no idea it existed. And it's not closed so much as simply not open -- there's no signage indicating, well, anything.
(Hat tip to commenter James)
UPDATE 29 October 2014 -- there is still no sign on the door or any formal indication that the place is closed, but they have started taking out equipment. For instance, the Touch Tunes console is gone.
I also note that the vines covering the porch wall have loads of fruit on them now, and it almost looks like it should be edible though I have no idea what it is. Can anyone identify it?
Also, based on the comments, I have added Doc's Gumbo Grille to the post title.

This was the original location of Doc's Gumbo Grill. My wife and I found it by word of mouth and the food was great. When they later moved to Assembly Street, the quality of the food went way down. They cooked all of the food out of the portable kitchen with the "Bistro" sign.

I had never heard of this place as well. It looks like a neat place to chill out and have a few adult beverages on the porch.

I suspect a major reason for their demise is they never put forth any effort to make feel welcome any persons who were not beholden to that disgusting barnyard fowl that influences any and everything that goes on in Colatown!! (lol)

I've acquired this place and am turning it in to a bistro named 1616 Gervais. Also, the fruit/vine is ornamental fig also fig ivy. The fruit is NOT edible. We should be open by August 1, 2016.13 Jul 16 at 3:08 pm

I also was not familiar with this establishment. I like the name, the building, and the idea of eating on a back porch.
It appears someone had invested a fair amount of $ here, to bad someone did not devote more energy to make all aware of it's existence.
That made me think of the line used by Bill Murray in the movie Caddy Shack.
Supposedly, The Dalai Lama told Carl that on his death bed, he would receive "Total Consciousness" and he has that going for him.
