Monterrey Mexican Restaurant, 114 Afton Court: May 2013 5 comments
Here's another closed Monterrey on the west side of the metro area.
Afton Court seems to be something of a hard-luck street over the last several years with the closing of Ritz Camera (though technically on another street) and more recently Bailey's.
I like the use of steps on this lot, including a set descending towards the adjacent movie theater.

The one in cayce is closed now too. Rumor that they were selling to underage drinkers and got shut down. But I think they just couldn't keep up with competition. Their prices were too high.

The Monterrey in Cayce is relocating into Parkland Plaza into a smaller space but it for some reason isn't listed on the Alphabetical Closings list...
The former Monterey's and the how closed Riverside Inn next door (which should feature here soon enough) are being torn down for new apartments...

you shouldnt hope that a place closes because a place closing means people lose jobs. as far as selling to underage people, what mexican place doesnt do that? along with all the bars in five points, sometimes people dont follow the law for the almighty dollar

Not sad. Another cheap tex-mex San Jose-esque place. I hope the one in Cayce goes next.
