Firenza is an interesting name for a pizza place because it suggests both "fire" and Italy (Firenza is the native name for the city we call by the exonym "Florence").

Fast casual pizza is now officially a thing, and Firenza is one of the chains in that market. This particular store, in Columbiana Station has not been here long. Commenter Heath reported in November of last year that this slot opened as a Persona Pizza and was just converting to Firenza at that point. Actually, Persona is the only one of these chains I have been to, and I was happy with my meal at the Woodhill location, so I'm not averse to checking out Firenza, Blaze or 1000 Degrees. Interestingly, as you can see in the pictures, there is a Blaze just across the street from this location.

Exactly what is going on here is a bit cryptic, but apparently it is an upfit of some sort and Firenza promises to return.

(Hat tips to commenters Heath & James R)

UPDATE 23 March 2018 -- Hmm, commenter Heath notes that apparently the place never actually opened as Firenza after Persona shut down. Maybe they got distracted by the Lexington opportunity. Anyway, I'm changing the title line qualifier from "(temporary)" to "(coming?)".

UPDATE 7 June 2021 -- Now a Brothers & Beer Mexican Restaurant:

  1. I don't think Firenza ever opened since the pictures I took in November. All of the door signs look exactly the same in these updated pictures, except the "sorry we're closed" sign is more faded.

  2. Hmm intersting. So the "new & improved" would have referenced vs Persona I guess.

  3. I did stop in at Persona one time but then it closed and I think the plan was to rebrand it Firenza but for some reason Firenza hasn't opened...I remember when Brandi, Inc. was seeking to bring Burger King back that he had several restaurants ready but had issues finding management to fully staff them and perhaps something along those lines is going on here...

  4. I was disappointed that Persona didn't make it. Really felt like its crust was much better than Blaze, but overall, Blaze was a better value and experience (ignoring the excruciatingly horrible acoustics inside Blaze). Each time I went into Persona, it seems like the employees were still figuring out what to do, while Blaze runs like a well oiled machine.

I was holding out hope that Persona would get its act together and attract more customers, but alas, that didn't happen.

    Oh well. :(

  5. I love pizza, and for years thought Pizza Hut had the best pizza until I spent some time up north and had really good pizza. That is when I discovered one can not get a really good pizza in Columbia. Every place I try now I find the pie to be barely edible, greasy and having a meager crust, and they leave a knot in my stomach that makes me miserable the next day. Best Pizza I ever had... Springfield Village Pizza, Springfield, Vermont.

  6. When this place opened as Persona, I won free pizza for a year...it closed after 6 months. Their pizza was good, but unlike Blaze their process was very inconsistent. The dough was hand-stretched, and sometimes you would get a really small pizza, they were also inconsistent with toppings. Sometimes you would get a lot of toppings other times almost nothing.

  7. According to The State, this is now Brothers & Beer, a "California-style" Mexican place.
