Elie's Mediterranean Cuisine, 1058 Saint Andrews Road: Spring 2016 8 comments
It's a little unclear exactly when Elie's closed. The offical announcement on their Facebook is 12 June 2016, but comments suggest the place had been closed for some time by then.
I wanted to like this place, in an interesting little converted house on Saint Andrews Road, and in the event stopped by twice some years ago. Both times they were out of what I ordered, and I never got around to seeing if third time was the charm.
The signs announce that a hair salon is coming.

I've been meaning to mention that in a different part of St. Andrews there's One Hour Kleen Kare Cleaners (6179 St. Andrews) that has signage indicating they're closing...

I was talking to a friend that knew the owners, and he stated that their closing was fairly recent (as in 2016). This was always one of my groups favorite places to go because the food was always excellent. Loved the cashew baklava they had.

Strange, it seemed very out of place for a restaurant to not be open at that time when I last tried to go. I wonder what was going on. Not a car in the parking lot, light on inside, and the sign was dark as well, but not because of a local power outage.

This place was great. Best Mediterranean food in Columbia. Unfortunately their hours were inconvenient for me.

It's been closed for years. I used to stop by and eat there now and again when I worked nearby, and had tried to stop by a couple of years ago when I was in the area again and found it closed then, early on a weekday evening.
I liked it well enough. The atmosphere inside was very strange, certainly not that of a restaurant but not really of a home either. But the food was good and it was a change of pace from Al-Amir, back when that was still an option around Irmo.
