Ritter Furs & Outerwear, 1219 Bull Street: January 2014 4 comments
After 75 plus years in business, Ritter Furs & Outerwear has closed its doors. Here's a bit of the history of the place, and it appears that it has been at this location since at least since 1955, which I would not have expected.
But, heaven help me, I cannot think about furs without this being the first thing that pops into my head:

I've lived in Columbia all my 56 years, first time I ever heard of Ritter Furs. Then again, I or anyone I know owns a fur that I am aware of.

I remember going there as a kid with my grandmother in the 50's. Mr. Ritter would clean and store furs over the summer for customers.

I worked with the owner's daughter when I was in Columbia. This was the late 70s.

Looks like Mr. and Mrs. Ritter died in 2010 and 2009, respectively. I guess the rest of the family decided it's time to call it a night.
