Bearing Supply / Power Drives, 128 State Street: 2000s 3 comments
Well, I haven't been able to find out anything at all about Power Drives other than its nameplate is on 128 State Street in West Columbia and that it is not there now. Everything google turns up for that address is for Bearing Supply, presumably a business that could supply you (or your factory) with bearings.
This strip of State Street is an interesting little area, once known, I believe as New Brookland (commemorated in The New Brookland Tavern just north of this storefront). Just south of here is the old mill antique mall, which actually was a (textile) mill at one time, and the other shops in the area are a mixture of the old and new, but all in interesting vintage buildings.

Great place to buy bearings, seals, pulleys, etc. without going into Columbia. Run by Ken DuBarry(sp.), who formally worked at Bearing Distributors

From 2004 to 2009 when I lived a couple of blocks from here this place sat vacant with essentially the same 'For Sale or Lease' sign in the window. Considering the fact that before the crisis hit this was an up and coming areaa I was kinda surprised by the fact that there were no takers for it. -- Then again the price or terms maay have been fairly unreasonable.

Yeah, it was Bearing Supply. I'm guessing there was a brand name above the Power Drives sign. Anyway, my dad went there onceand was none too impressed with the service or pricing.
This area, including the mill village, is one I've been expecting to take off for 15 years or so, now. But it never really sems to.
