This closing is rather interesting as there doesn't seem to have been any media coverage of it, and Google still thinks the place is open. Looking at Wikipedia and googling for news in general does not suggest the chain is in trouble, so I'm not sure what was going on here.

  1. I wonder if it's part of Dick's roll out of its "House of Sport" concept stores.

  2. rowen got me to thinking: Last Thanksgiving I went shopping at a Dick's Sporting Goods store called Going, Going, Gone in the Richmond area while I was with family I have up there and that is another possibility I thought about...

This store opened up in August 2012: Michael's was in a portion of this spot but they moved next door into a spot that was originally Linens N Things (but closed when that whole company liquidated and had sat vacant for a few years). After Michael's moved, this space was consolidated with a former OfficeMax into this Dick's and htat is how it had been since. After Micheal's moved, there was some space on the end that Kirkland's wound up moving into...each of the moves referenced herein did feature here.

  3. The State seems to be late in the game.

No real indication as to why is given other than "Other stores in the area are closing". Perhaps a bad location.

  4. Allegedly, the owner of the strip mall has increased the rent. With the slow foot traffic at this store location, there was no reason to keep the store open. This of course is the rumor/word that's been going around the NE area.
