Bath & Body Works, Richland Mall: 31 January 2012 14 comments
This State story from 29 January 2012 says that Bath & Body Works
[I]s in the process of closing as its lease expires.
Which makes me fairly comfortable listing the closing date as 31 January 2012.
I've never stepped into a Bath & Body Works, as I don't have a lot of requirements for a bath other than soap, but I always had an impression that it was kind of a scrappy chain since the only two I was aware of were this one in Richland Mall and one in Inlet Square Mall in Murrells Inlet. Neither mall could be called prime real estate, but the stores hung in there for years.
The Richland Mall store was at the edge of the food court (which is down to one restaurant) and just past the old S & S Cafeteria.
Luckily, there are alternatives:

See the linked State article above for some details. They are re-zoning to add other options than retail, still there's:
Century Capital Group, which bought the perennially troubled mall almost two years ago and is working to develop a master plan.
Seems like two years is more than enough time to develop a plan..

Well, of all those, only Columbiana Center & Coastal Grand are non-struggling malls..

It's pretty sad that Trenholm Plaza is booming, yet the"developers" at Richland Mall can't get anythin going there.
I'd bet they are trying to completely kill the mall. Probably to put a giant apartment complex or business center.ChiefDanGeorge

Along with Columbiana Centre and Columbia Mall, also one at Village at Sandhill. It's a pretty common mall store.

I personally have always prefered Mr. Bubble over the other leading brands of bathtub fun. Forget Calgon, forget Jergen's..just give me Mr. Bubble. hahahahahahaha!

The ODAR (fragrance) from this place was SOOOO strong, that everytime I would walk by there, I'd sneeze several times. I can only imagine what it was like to work in there if you had allergy problems..

The Bath & Body Works in Columbiana is one of their "flagship" stores, larger than regular stores. There is also one in the Village at Sandhill.

I used to work in a Bath & Body Works. Sooner or later, you get used to it. *shrug*Amanda

My sense is that if someone knows they wouldn't be able to handle the smell of the fragrances they sell, that they wouldn't both applying there. I don't mind stores like Bath and Body Works or scented cosmetics, etc. but I have a sensitivity to household cleaners.

I remember going in there once and they told me that they didn't have the same specials, that other Bath and Body Works stores have, because they were not a corporate store. I saw no reason in shopping there if I had to pay full price. My understanding is that's why they didn't update this store either. The other locations all did major remodeling in the early 00s.

A new Richland County Sheriff's Department Training center is one of several new additions to Richland Mall...
In addition, Sadie's American Cafeteria is preparing to open up where S&S was with Rainsoft moving from Main Street into the former Bath & Body Works and Pilates of Forest Acres has come to Richland Mall as well.
They also recently rezoned the mall to allow for a wider tenant search. Finding the right fits for said mall has been a challenge and this article points it out. Patience is important, though, as Century Capital Group in conjunction with Kahn Development work to bring some new folks into Richland Mall. You have them to thank or blame for changing the facility name from Midtown at Forest Acres back to Richland Mall approximately 2 years ago.

All we have now is Columbiana and Columbia Place locations mall-wise.

Bath and Body Works has a location at Columbiana Centre...
They primarily sell scented soaps and lotions.
I swear this is another gargantuan blow to Richland Mall as Kahn Development in conjunction with Century Capital Group attempt to bring new life into the shopping facility now known as Richland Mall. They've conveyed tremendous optimism but we have yet to see any of the fruits of their work (unless folks here know something I do not)...
