Maurice's BBQ Piggie Park, 622 Saint Andrews Road: November 2023 3 comments
Continuing yesterday's barbecue theme..
I don't see any work going on here, but the signs claim they will be back, so I'm marking this closing as "Temporary" and we'll see what happens.
I've only eaten Maurice's at the flagship store once or twice, and it was fine. I've never been to this location, and I have to say it's a bit of a bear to get in and out of. In the event, I decided to go on past and park in the Firefly parking lot.

UPDATE 30 August 2024 -- Now Hard Bean Coffee:
Also removed "Temporary" from the post title.
Subway, 4611 Hardscrabble Road Suite 117: Summer 2020 4 comments
I don't mind Subway in a pinch, though the last time one was convenient to me, they kept it so cold I couldn't stand to eat there. This one was in the Publix plazza on Hardscrabble, on the far right end. I know I did a closing for a restaurant on the far left end once, but I can't find it now, so perhaps it got lost in the great database crash of a few years ago.

2 Gingers, 245 Bush River Road: Summer 2020 (Open Again) 2 comments
There are Yelp reviews for 2 Gingers into June of 2020, so this isn't a closure that started with COVID, but of course that may have contributed. It's possible that it's temporary too, but looking inside it appears it would take a good bit of work to re-open.
This building was Chinese stalwart Golden China for many years, then transitioned into Bombay Grill while keeping some of the Chinese decor, at least initially. I'm not sure when it switched to 2 Gingers (in fact I had forgotten all about the Bombay Grill phase), but I ate there several times, and enjoyed it. They had a bit of a different menu than some other places, featuring the pancake-like 'Dosa's. They also would give you the food really, really hot if you said 'hot'.
I like the slogan on their road sign: We Have Taken Indian To The Border Of Darn & Good.
UPDATE 15 August 2020: Commenter mamarose says the closing is announced and temporary for upfits. I have added "Temporary" to the post title.
UPDATE 6 March 2020 -- As mentioned in the comments, this place is open again (and has been for a while):
J. Peters Grill & Bar, 2005 North Beltline Boulevard: 14 June 2019 (Reflagged) 8 comments
I was driving down Beltline today, and noticed that J. Peters Grill & Bar in the old D's Wings location was gone.
In its place was J.R. Cash's Grill & Bar. A little google work found this story from Greenville establishing what happened. It seems that J. Peters was run by a partnership which has just split up. One partner retains the name, and most of the stores. The other partner gets four of the stores (including the two here in Columbia), but must rename them. The "new" business retains the same phone number, and according to the google reviews most of the menu. I'll note that the linked story is a little odd in that it only names one partner.
As for this particular J. Peters -- I only stopped there once. I spent an hour waiting for a cheese-burger. Apparently the only cook in the kitchen had just quit by walking out the door. I know that was atypical, but there are enough places for cheese-burgers that I never got around to going back.
Rosso, 4840 Forest Drive: 18 February 2019 3 comments
Well, this is a shame. Rosso was the follow-on operation in this corner of Trenholm Plaza to Tuesday Morning, and as you can see from the shots above, the space was completely gutted and remodeled in preparation for Rosso's arrival.
The place was a bit more upscale than I am, but over the years I liked to sit on the patio and have the Margherita Pizza (they didn't really have "normal" pizzas) while reading and watching the people go by. They often did have very good soups as well. If they had any weaknesses, it was that the bread was often some sort of rolls rather than something fresh baked and that they liked to monkey around with the Creme Brulee: No I don't want raspberry lemon-peel Creme Brulee or whatever, I want Creme Brulee Creme Brulee.
The place sold a few years ago, and went slightly more upscale with individual cloth towels in the bathroom. At that point, it also exhibited one of the warning signs, when the hours were changed to a significantly earlier closing. After that, I was rarely able to make it any more though I was hoping I would get a chance to revisit sometime during the Spring. Hopefully they will find a new spot.

UPDATE 20 July 2023 -- Work on the new restaurant upfit has started:
Hardee's, 4301 Sunset Boulevard: July 2018 4 comments
Back in the days of Speedy McGreedy & Gilbert Giddyup, Hardees was our goto place on road trips because unlike McDonalds or Burger King, they had "chewy" ice in all their stores. That changed sometime in the 70s or 80s, and with them adding chicken, and with me hating the smell of Chicken, I don't think I have eaten there after breakfast in 30 years or so.
This store was co-located with a convenience store/gas station at the I-20/US-378 interchange, and you can still get your burger on there, as both McDonald's and Chili's are still at this exit.
I like the glass blocks, btw.
