GameStop, 6080 Garners Ferry Road Suite B: January 2026 4 comments
This former Game Crazy switched over to Gamestop in 2010, and now with the latest wave of closings for that chain stands vacant.
WLTX reports that Gamestop plans to close more than 470 stores this year which honestly seems like that won't leave many, if any. I'm not a gamer, but I have to say that after spending hours trying to set up an Xbox for a gift Christmas a year ago, the idea of a store where you can go and just buy stuff rather than futzing around with downloading and accounts seems very appealing.

Truist, 6098 Garners Ferry Road: 2024 2 comments
I had not noticed that this Truist branch was closed until recently. For various historical reasons (ie: Southern National) I have a Truist Visa, but have rarely if ever needed to go into a branch, and I have been going to the Killian Road Panera since the one next door to this lot started going downhill. I finally did notice it when I came out to take some Party City pictures.
Somewhat surprisingly to me, despite the fact that the next tenant is also a bank (Founders Credit Union) the building has been completely gutted, the landscaping has been torn up and the earth turned and trenches (for cables?) have been cut in the parking lot. It looks like quite a bit of work before Founders will be able to open.
Party City, 6090 Garners Ferry Road Suite D08A: Early 2025 1 comment
I had gone by this Party City around New Years I think, at any rate after the chain closing was announced, to get some pictures, but at that time it appeared to be in full normal operation. Now however all the closing signage is up.
This particular store moved here from Parklane in December 2022, so they have had around a two yaear run.
UPDATE 25 February 2025: Previously when I posted this closing, I had the wrong pictures (of the Harbison location). The pictures are now actually of the Woodhill location, and I am republishing the post.
UPDATE 5 March 2025 -- Here are the shots from 22 December 2024 that I couldn't find before:
Bed Bath & Beyond, 6090 Garners Ferry Road Suite C: February 2023 7 comments
The store at Shoppes at Woodhill is now part of the ongoing Bed Bath & Beyond collapse. I don't know exactly when this store will close, but the signs are already up, so I'll just mark it for this month in the post title.
I believe I have been in Bed Bath & Beyond about three times, and have never bought anything there. I guess there was a lot of that going 'round..

Sprint Store / Wine & Design, 141 Pelham Drive Suite G: circa 2020 no comments
I noticed this vacant suite on the endcap of the Hickory Tavern wing of Shoppes At Woodhill when I was driving by the other evening, and was trying to remember what was there before. I turned up the first picture above establishing that it was a Sprint store at one time, but a little more googling brought up Wine & Design, which I'm not sure exactly what the concept was, but apparently you went there and did some sort of art project while relaxing a bit with a glass or two of wine. I know they moved at least once before from one part of Richland Mall to another. I suspect they moved here shortly after that, which would have been a 2017/2018 timeframe.
From what I can tell, they closed up shop around 2020, probably largely because of the pandemic, I would guess.
Jimmy John's, 5910 Garners Ferry Road: 12 June 2022 (Open Again) 2 comments
I got a bit of a surprise today when I decided I wanted a JJ BLT for lunch.
It seems that yesterday, somebody drove a car into the front of the Woodhill Jimmy John's. I presume it was an accident, since you would not expect to find a lot of cash in a sandwich shop. According to the door sign, nobody was hurt, which is the important thing, and they expect to reopen as quickly as possible.
UPDATE 28 September 2022: This location is open again. Also updating tags.
Target, 6090 Garners Ferry Road Suite A: April 2022 (Activity) 3 comments
Something is going on at the Garners Ferry Target. Just looking at all the containers parked in the lot, I would guess some kind of major remodeling, though I still think of that as a pretty new store. I suppose I could have found out by just going in, but I didn't have time right then.
Anyone know?
Pier 1 Imports, 6090 Garners Ferry Road Suite D: July 2020 2 comments
I have written about Pier 1 Imports before and don't have much to say about this store. I think I was inside once some ten years or so ago. The whole chain is in bankruptcy now and all the stores are shutting. Wikipedia says they are still hoping for a buyer to keep the online side of the brand alive, but to me that seems like a longshot.
UPDATE 16 September 2021 -- As mentioned in the comments, now, temporarily a Spirit Haloween:
BB&T, 6089 Garners Ferry Road: Fall 2018 (remodeling?) no comments
I'm not sure exactly what is going on at this BB&T next to Panera Bread on Garners Ferry Road, but it seems to be some sort of renovation.
What really needs renovation is the parking lot by the old Postal Depot, which has one of Columbia's more impressive potholes (which is saying something).
Best Bottle Wine & Gifts, 6070 Garners Ferry Road Suite E: Summer 2016 2 comments
This is the little strip at Shoppes At Woodhill which has seen Radio Shack and Qdoba leave and Chipolte and Starbucks arrive. In one of the pictures I took for Qdoba, I can see that this little wine shop originally had another name, but I can't quite make it out. At any rate, they are now closing and running their final sale.
