GameStop has been up and down over the last few years. I think people are playing fewer games sold on media vs downloading, but in the other direction, there was a really crazy run up on the stock price a few years ago as well.

A YouTube Short claims this one closed on 14 January 2025, which I can't verify in any other media, but it is definitely closed now.

I'm guessing this might have been the new location for the Dutch Square GameStop which closed in 2010, but I don't really know.

  1. So this location was established before the Electronics Boutique/GameStop merger. It competed briefly with the EB Games mall location. Then - in GameStop’s infinite wisdom, they established the location further down Bush River at the Walmart location.

Prior to this - it was a Payless.

  2. This actually originally opened as a GameStop and movies location, a brief attempt to also sell used DVDs in addition to games. I think the attempt to sell DVDs did not last much more than a year if that.

  3. @Thomas - I do recall it being a "GameStop and Movies" location, but I don't remember it being branded anything differently than a GameStop.

They would get trades from customers, and more often - the DVD/BluRays that were stolen from Wal-Mart and fenced for cash there.

  4. That whole area is barely on life support!! It's sad to see how much it has declined over the years...

  6. Weird fact: My spouse worked at GameStop in the 2010s. At one time, they actually considered putting snack bar-type restaurants inside the stores, with seating areas. Seeing how so many people come inside GameStop just to "hang out" anyway.

A major problem for my spouse, and other managers, was that too many employees think GameStop is a fun job where you get to play games all day. They don't think about inventory, customer service skills, and "the business side of things".

Even when hard-working, dependable people *are* hired, GameStop rarely gives the managers enough budget to schedule them for a decent amount of work hours, forcing the employees to get another job elsewhere.
