I was going down to the Greek Festival last weekend, and noticed this Dollar General (in a former Eckerd) on the corner of Taylor & Barnwell streets. was closed.

The sign doesn't give any reason, but assures us that it is temporary. If I had to guess, I would say staffing issues, but of course I don't know.

  1. I second your guess about staffing issues. There are two Dollar General locations that we go to fairly often. Both of them will open late or close early sometimes.

Many places are now paying cashiers/sales associates more than what an assistant manager makes at DG.

  2. Yep, staffing is my choice as well. I dropped by one of my DG's later than normal and the doors were locked. I looked around the outside for posted hours...Nothing! How do they stay in business.

  3. Just one more data point about staffing: I was buying a drink in a local DG, and the cashier was talking to another customer, telling him that he just walked in one day as a customer, and the person on duty asked him if he wanted a job.

  4. I stopped at one of the DG's between the airport and Pelion a few weeks ago and it had been converted to 100% self checkout. I figure they now only have to have 1 to 2 people onsite at any time.

  5. It's open again.
