A-1 Appliance, 2414 Two Notch Road: January 2018 no comments
I noticed last weekend that this old-school used appliance store at the corner of Two Notch and McFadden was closed. Kind of a shame because the old stuff was better made than the new stuff in many cases.
Church's Chicken, 2436 Taylor Street: February 2018 18 comments
As you can see from the sign, this Church's Chicken at the foot of Gonzales Gardens and in the location of the old Drake's is now closed, or colsed, if you prefer.
I would guess this means a little more business for the KFC on the next block up, but *this* bird has flown the coop.

UPDATE 19 December 2018 -- As mentioned in the comments, some sort of construction is going on here, though there is no signage indicating what might be coming next:
UPDATE 21 February 2021 -- As mentioned in the comments, to be an Asian Express:
The Wired Goat, 709 Gervais Street: Mid December 2017 1 comment
I have to admit that I was not aware that The Wired Goat existed before it closed. There are some signs on Gervais Street, as you can see in several of the pictures, but the place was down an alley, and basically not visible at all from the main drag.
The Free Times says the owners are (or perhaps at this point were) considering reopening somewhere with more parking. At any rate, given that all the fixtures are still in place, it does not appear that the space is on the market yet.

BB&T, 2500 Charleston Highway: 2017 2 comments
These are some not very good drive-by pictures of this branch at the corner of The Charleston Highway and Old Dunbar Road. There is a much better one in the real estate listing here.
I had it in my mind that the building had been vacant for longer, but it is listed in the February 2017 phonebook, so most likely it closed during 2017 (though as I said a few posts ago, the accuracy of phonebook information is dropping).
At any rate, the process of banks de-branching (pruning?) continues.
UPDATE 28 September 2021: Updating tags and adding map icon.
Havertys Furniture, 7515 Two Notch Road: February 2018 7 comments
Havertys recently moved their Colonial Life Boulevard store to Harbison. I think the move added a bit of size to that store, and perhaps they think one larger store is enough, but whatever the reason, the Two Notch Road store near the I-20 interchange in Dentsville is now closing.
As a side note, the old Ramada Inn property almost directly across the street remains vacant after almost eight years..

Yesternight Distilllery, 4884 Sunset Boulevard Suite I: 1 November 2017 2 comments
Yesternight Distilery moved into the old Abolute Discount Mattress space on 11 February 2017 according to commenter James R, having relocated from the The Old Mill after being gutted by the flood of 2015. It seems to me that over the last several years, I have seen a number of "Moonshine" stores open, something I had never seen before that. I don't know if there was some sort of law change that made it easier, or if it is just one of those retail trends. At any rate, Yesternight is now closed, though they apparently are still looking into reopening elsewhere.
I noticed something about this property when I looked for the address. It shares the street number "4884" with the small strip mall containing Lexington Pawn & Gun. I had always assumed they were separate properties, but apparently not.

McDonald's, 600 Saint Andrews Road: January 2018 (open again) 5 comments
As commenter Andrew noted, another McDonald's is undergoing an upfit. This one, at the corner of Saint Andrews & Ashland Roads is apparently not going to be razed and completely rebuilt like the Forest Drive store.
