Goody's Family Clothing, 1130 Bower Parkway (off Harbison Blvd): 2008   16 comments

Posted at 5:27 pm in closing

I already posted about the closing of the Two Notch Goody's, and the problems the whole chain was and is having, but I thought it was interesting that the building for the Bower Parkway Goody's, which apparently closed at the same time, has already been re-purposed. Granted these "giant book sale" things usually only last for a couple of weeks or months (though one at the old Waccamaw Pottery mall lasted for a few years), but it's something and it starts today, so you if you head out now, you can get 80% off some out of date computer manuals, and cookbooks by people you never heard of.

UPDATE 18 July 2009: Not its a "liquidation sale" for the next month or so. The sort of $5 entrance fee affair you used to see at Jamil Temple sometimes:

UPDATE 25 May 2010: Change post title to reflect full official name of the store and full street address.

UPDATE 22 Sep 2010 -- Now it's a Halloween store:

UPDATE 24 September 2011 -- It's to be a Stein Mart:

UPDATE 31 October 2011 -- Looks like Stein Mart is open:

UPDATE 10 May 2017 -- Actually I have been confusing 1120 & 1130 Bower Parkway. Goody's, the Haloween popup store and the Giant Book Sale store were all in 1130, most recently occupied by H H Gregg. 1120 where Stein Mart was is a different storefront.

  1. Noticed yesterday that they are putting in a Halloween Express here.

  2. Halloween Express used to operate where Golds Gym Express is now on Harbison so this was the nearest space of appropriate size for them...they also operate in the former OfficeMax at Sparkelberry Square

  3. Something might be happening here...I saw two construction dumpsters and the doors were wide open so people must be doing some type of construction...

I checked the DDR site plan for Columbiana Station and it doesn't show anything at this point...

  4. I saw a Building permit in the window for interior demolition but no definitive signs as to what might be coming here...

  5. Hmm. To be a Steinmart apparently, at least in part.

  6. Ok so here's what's going on:

The The State article Ted linked indicated that Stein Mart would be 30,000 square feet. Goody's is 45,000 square feet so that leaves ≈15K for something else which would be an ideal size for World Market (which I'm fantasizing about seeing go in that area)...

Columbiana on Park will have: Ulta, DSW shoes, TJ Maxx HomeGoods* and Staples will move into Columbiana on Park as well. The current Staples will create a new ≈25K square foot leasing opportunity on Park Terrace Drive. In addition, Firestone's Auto Care will move into one of the outparcels (with McDonald's moving into another).

    * I am hoping that this doesn't mean the end of TJ Maxx at Columbiana Station but will need to double check on that one.

  10. folks, the Stein Mart signage is officially up and the place has the flooring of a Setin Mart from what I can tell...so it won't be much longer before the place gets stocked with Stein Mart merchandise

  11. I know I asked this before on this site but is there really another need for another Stein Mart? Its just a knockoff of Kohl's that sells geriatric fashion at it's finest.

  12. Well, that's the market for you. If it turns out we *don't* need it, it will feature here eventually.

  13. A number of factors will play out and that's the beauty of the American landscape for ya....Stein Mart should be open around October 19...

  14. You're right...I see one Stein Mart location has already actually closed in Columbia(apparently before I moved here to see it open) It'll be interesting to see how this goes in a couple years from now.

  15. folks, this Saturday, October 15, 2011, Stein Mart will have their grand opening here at 10 AM.

btw, Anna's Linens is now open at Harbison Court in the former LifeWay as well

No word yet on when Buffalo Wild Wings will be open at 1000 Bower Parkway in the former O'Charley's just yet...

  16. When Stein Mart took this over, they left a ≈13.1K vacant space between them and where Dick's Sporting Goods is. I have recently noticed that Dick's Sporting Goods has expanded for a 59.5K square foot store into said space.

Keep in mind that Dick's Sporting Goods is about to open a new Northeast Richland outlet that consolidates the former Micheals and OfficeMax into one 47K square foot store.

Micheals opened up in the former Linens N Things (but left app. 5-10K square foot vacant for something new).
