Burger King, Columbiana Centre: Summer 2017   12 comments

As mentioned several times in Have Your Say, the Burger King at Columbiana Mall is closed "temporarily". There's not any explanation on the sign making that claim, and apparently it has been several months. Ordinarily after such a length of time, I might write off the sign as wishful thinking, but in this case the equipment clearly has not been stripped, so who knows.

Almost as soon as I got inside to take this picture, somebody pulled the fire alarm, and everybody headed for the exits.

UPDATE 9 October 2017 -- As mentioned in the comments this spot is setting up to be an American Deli so I'm taking the "temporary" off the post title:

UPDATE 6 February 2019: Change the location from "Columbiana Mall" to "Columbiana Centre". Add location icon.

  1. There was talk on WIS news tonight about Richland County thinking about purchasing Dutch Square and Columbia Mall to use for government offices. I guess they are in the business of buying up old malls now.

  2. I have found an article discussing what Homer was speaking of...it also spoke of what went into redoing Decker Mall...

The thing that has been discussed is that the physical malls are going down, not just in Columbia but across the board and this is one possible solution...

With the community reputation of Columbia Place Mall what it is I have my doubts about it being the popular mall (and shopping destination) it once was when it was known as Columbia Mall in the 80s and even into the 90s so this could be the answer it needs.

Dutch Square I was starting to feel better about when the new eating places such as The Crab Shak, Chef T Takeout and Mano's Express opening up in the food court but now that Phillips Edison has divested themselves of Dutch Square I'm not as hopeful as I once was. I know at one point I saw renderings for proposals for things like doctor's offices and/or professional offices so perhaps that's something they're considering we shall see how it all pans out...

  3. I heard they got evicted from the mall and did some digging on the Lexington County Public index and sure enough - there were several case involving eviction with them listed.

  5. I was kind of surprised Forest Acres didn't move anything into Richland Mall while City Hall was unusable after the flood.

  6. @ted - I drove around Richland Mall one day at lunch while killing time and it looked terrible from the outside. From your pictures the inside seems to look nice, but then again, you can say the same for Columbia Mall

  7. SC Department of Revenue is what moved into Outlet Pointe (many of their offices left the SC State Museum) in the process...this was after everything left...the only things I can remember are Plej's, Silk Flowers & Things (prior to that it was Wacammaw) and also an antique shop...then Hamrick's stayed until their 2012 move into their current spot on Bush River Road...

  8. As for Richland Mall, well, the whole Parisian side is really starting to go -- both the elevator and escalators where out last time I walked through. And of course the food court is empty and the play set cordoned off..

  9. State Housing and Finance is also in Outlet Point Mall. They were actually there log before DOR. I know this because my kids mother has worked there for at least 10 years now.

  10. Burger King used to be my favorite fast food place. This particular location always seemed bad. I got the impression they were severely understaffed. The times I went, the person that took my order also went to the back and cooked it. I hope it is just temporary and comes back better than ever.
