Z Pizza, 1004 Gervais Street Suite 215: late December 2011 3 comments
Z Pizza in Lexington until someone mentioned here that it had closed. The one in the Vista though, I certainly knew about, though I had never been to it.
Given that commenter Larry noticed the place closed on 3 January 2012, I'm guessing it probably closed on 31 December since that's a nice end-of-the-month/end-of-the-year date.
Looking inside and seeing the fairly limited and uncomfortable looking seating, I guess that it must have been focused more on takeout and by-the-slice than places I typically go to, so probably I would not have been in the target demographic even if I had made it over there.
I also not that the owner-sign
Closed!
Gone!!!!
is very succinct, leaving it to next door Mojitos to post something a bit more verbose (if somewhat silver-lining seeking--Note the key-word on the sandwich board..)
Why did Z close? Well, of course there's this:
but that's been a factor from the get-go, and as I mentioned its really not the same demographic.

Mojitos has received excellent recommendations from everyone I know that has tried it. Cuban cuisine.
Z-pizza was good, but not great. The different recipes/toppings were a nice change but not enough apparently. I think they were hoping to capture the huge overflow the Mellow mushroom gets on the weekends. Apparently, it never happened.

They're actually moving this location to Hardscrabble Road. They did a poor job of marketing and every time you were on the Facebook page or Twitter it was always the owner's comments about sports and stuff, never about the store. I really liked the pizza. I thought it was better than Mellow, but it was odd to open it right across the street from Mellow Mushroom in the first place.
Per FB the Lexington store is being moved to Aiken.

The other reason would probably be there pizza wasn't that great either.
