Buddy's Saucy Dogs, 5225 Sunset Boulevard: 27 August 2016   3 comments

Posted at 12:33 am in closing

If you look way in the back left in the first shot above, you can vaguely see the Buddy's storefront. For some reason, when I went by this little Lexington plaza the other night, I was thinking Buddy's was in the slot next to Brueggers and did not take any pictures of the right storefront. (I certainly should have known better, as I did a closing for Mr. Hibachi which was the real former tenant next to Brueggers..)

Anyway, the reason I was there at all (aside from pizza at Uno) was this little article from The State, noting that Buddy's Saucy Dogs had closed down, and is to be replaced by an "artisan taco restaurant, One Taco, Two Taco".

I like hotdogs; I don't know why I very rarely get them from a restaurant. I guess I automatically think of cooking them over a fire on a stick, or over the burner on a fork..

UPDATE 10 October 2016 -- Signage for One Taco Two Taco is up. Interesting that they are going the full bar route. That puts them up with Cantina 76:

  1. So, you've got a guy who evidently wasn't successful selling hot dogs in Lexington and the brain-trust behind Rue 77 teaming up. Anybody wanna get a pool going for how long "One Taco, Two Taco" lasts?

Buddy's was o.k. As I understand, they even gave a portion of their proceeds to animal causes in the area, which I deeply respect. I only ate there once as I'm not often in that area. But yeah, it was alright.

I did not go to Rue 77 while they were open. However the establishment had several challenges it never really addressed. The location wasn't great. Parking on Assembly can be a chore even on a good day. They never did any significant advertising other then the good old Free Times... *insert eye roll here*

How many taco joints does the Columbia area realistically need?

  2. We ate here recently and I have to agree with Lone Wolf. It was just ok. I guess I am not really surprised they closed. The place always appeared empty and they are just a few doors down from the more established Sandy's Famous Hot Dogs. Two other hot dogs stands opened around the same time, one in downtown Lexington and one closer to Columbia on US 1. That seems to beg a similar question to Lone Wolf's. How many hot dogs stands does Lexington really need?

  3. I don't know if they technically opened on October 20th as the sign says, but One Taco, Two Taco is now open in this location.
