It's by the <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiaclosings.com\/wordpress\/?p=8\">Wendy's<\/a> that's gone, which is by the <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiaclosings.com\/wordpress\/?p=325\">Casual Male<\/a> which is gone, making that strip something of a <i>desolation row<\/i>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I parked at <i>K-Mart<\/i> and walked over to have a look.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess01.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess01_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I didn't check for a dial tone, but the phone is there and unvandalized.  Look at the <i>Bell System<\/i> logo on the booth -- that's been there a while!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess03.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess03_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>They seem to have covered all the pumps in plywood -- I assume the pumps are still under there anyway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess04.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess04_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Of course not <i>everything<\/i> was secured.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess05.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess05_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><i>The State<\/i> seems to have figured out not to do a delivery.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess06.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess06_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess07.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess07_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess08.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess08_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is rather interesting.  At first blush it appears that they have built an observation deck for the creek that runs between the station and <i>K-Mart<\/i>.  On later reflection, it's probably so the guy changing the letters and numbers on the sign would have a place to stand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess11.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess11_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess12.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"..\/pix\/09\/04\/hess12_tn.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>And, of course, as on any empty lot, there was a guy selling sofas out of a truck before I got there -- he packed up because it started to rain.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I just noticed the other day that this Hess filling station by the K-Mart on Two Notch Road was gone.
