I don't have an exact date for the closing, but the follow-on, <i>Surfin' Sumo<\/i>, \"Hawaiian fusion flavors with a Japanese twist\", opened on 28 August 2025, so presumably at least a couple of weeks before that, to allow for the changeover.<\/p>\n<p>I don't see any stories about <i>Sandwich Depot<\/i> (the Google reviews are middling), but here are stories about the new operation from <a href=\"https:\/\/columbiasc.gov\/surfin-sumo-grand-opening-3\/\">City government<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.postandcourier.com\/columbia\/business\/surfin-sumo-downtown-columbia-restaurant\/article_e32b70cc-d064-4889-aec8-c6c54acedc79.html\">the Post & Courier<\/a> & <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/local\/article311838277.html\">The State<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>(Hat tip to commenter Justin)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/1211+Taylor+St,+Columbia,+SC+29201\/\" target=\"_blank\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/columbiaclosings.com\/pix\/misc\/world_map_icon.png\"><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Here's another place I never ate -- I wasn't really aware of it, and anyway would worry about parking.
