Of course it's not exactly unusual for hotels to have active and sometimes rowdy bars (see for instance <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiaclosings.com\/wordpress\/?p=250\">The Wicked Witch Lounge<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiaclosings.com\/wordpress\/?p=363\">The Pirate's Cove<\/a>), but those are generally in facilities designed as lounges and part of the hotel business proper (whatever it says on the business license).<\/p>\n<p>However the situation came about <i>Thee Whiskey Tavern<\/i> survived the reflagging of the hotel from <a href=\"http:\/\/columbiaclosings.com\/wordpress\/?p=11504\">Budget Inn<\/a> to <i>Hawthorn<\/i>, and an associated major remodel.  It also survived an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article105383216.html\">onsite stabbing in 2016<\/a>.  In fact, going by the closing story in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thestate.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article183199366.html\">The State<\/a>, it's not crystal clear exactly what *<i>did<\/i>* close the place down.  The article and linked <i>RCSD<\/i> twitter cite aren't very forthcoming other than <i>operating illegally as a sexually oriented business<\/i>.
