Decker Billaid, 1803 Decker Boulevard: Fall 2015 3 comments
For many years this was Decker Billiard Club. It closed briefly and re-opened, probably unintentionally, as Decker Billaid.
I drove by recently and noticed the place is now a latin club called Serena Lounge.
Flood Damage Forest Acres / Dentsville: 11 October 2015 1 comment
Hopefully I can add some commentary tomorrow, but for now I just want to get these pictures out there.
UPDATE 16 October 2015: Ok, I was under the weather for a few days, but let me add a little text here now.
First, I am happy to say that even as these pictures were taken, on Sunday 11 October 2015, recovery work was in full stride. All the flooded and gutted buildings on Forest Drive had evidence that of ongoing work and cleanup, and I noticed today (15 October 2015) that the Garden Center in Forest Lake Shopping Center was once again stocked and open for business.
KNC Trading, 2632 Decker Boulevard: Late August 2015 5 comments
Well, you may best remember this spot as Red Wing Rollerway:
but whatever follow-on operation KNC Trading did, they're not doing it any more.
The vans pulled up in late August, and now, as of 8 September, the building is empty and has once more been sold:
UPDATE 12 June 2018 -- This place is now a latin church, Centro Cristiano:

Decker Village Facelift, 2300 Decker Boulevard: August 2015 6 comments
Well, it appears that the Decker Village shopping center in the 2300 block of Decker Boulevard has been bought out, and is starting a major renovation. The first step has been to take the distinctive triangular steel canopies off of the shopping center storefronts. I have to say that so far, it is definitely not an improvement, as you can see in the "before" pictures below. Hopefully some new facade work will be forthcoming as part of the upfit. As the sign says, the new owners are Ziff Properties Inc, but so far their site doesn't have any details about their future plans for property.

UPDATE 1 June 2019: Change address from 2312 Decker to 2300 Decker, to match what is on the plaza street sign. Also added map icon.
Santa Fe Mexican Grill, 1735 Decker Boulevard Suite B: 2014 1 comment
As I was driving down Decker the other day, I noticed that the little corner Mexican restaurant in Decker Plaza, Santa Fe Mexican Grill has rebranded as La Poblanita.
I was wondering if the name meant something like "little poblano pepper", and I guess the root is the same, but wordreference says:
In Mexico there is a state (and a city) called Puebla. The name given to people (or things) from that state is "poblano or poblana". La Poblanita is a diminutive of "poblana". So, La Poblanita is like saying the little woman (or girl) from Puebla. Cheers.
P.S. Be mindful that Puebla is a relatively common name, and there are many towns in the Spanish-speaking countries (I think mostly in Spain) with that name.
so I guess the winsome senorita in the restaurant logo is that eponymous lady.
Nick's Gyros & Grill, 2632 Decker Boulevard: Spring 2015 1 comment
I wondered at the time about Nick's opening in this old Taco Bell as it seemed quite close to their flagship location on Two Notch.
In the event, it appears the Decker location is now independant (though seemingly with a similar menu). Feel Goods is the new name.
UPDATE 16 April 2015: Added first two pictures of Nick's in operation.

Sonic Drive-In, 2461 Decker Boulevard: Early February 2015 1 comment
Well, I find this closing a bit surprising, especially given that a lot of Richland County offices will be going into Decker Mall just across the street.
For some reason I've always associated Sonic with small towns and bygone days, probably since the first one I was aware of was in Hartsville sometime back in the 1970s, but nowdays they seem to be a chain on the move with national television campaigns (rather silly ones, I must say) and expansion into head-to-head competition with McDonalds and the rest of the "sit down" fast food chains. I don't think I've had the burgers, but I stop for a milkshake once or twice a year, and they're pretty good.
The closing signs here are a bit disingenuous, as in fact the Forest Drive location:
has been open for over a year in the old Hardee's location.
(Hat tip to my sister)
UPDATE -- To become a Tokyo Grill:
Also adding map icon.
