@Andrew, the main Hammericks store in Gaffney is about the size of a Wal-Mart Supercenter, and the one in Surfside Beach is much bigger than the one here in Columbia.

How long did it just sit there? Did they close it after the manager was killed? or was it later? I know it sat there forever just getting more and more in dis-repair.

Del I don't have any pics to share but I can confirm that the fmr. Hiltop at 767 St. Andrews Road has, indeed been torn down. Not sure what it's a sign of so we'll have to say tuned...

I hope it doesn't become a Hamrick's since I am not fond of shopping there at all...but the former Piggly Wiggly #60 has sat vacant for nearly 4 years now...be that as it may, it seems like it'd be too big to be a Hamrick's

There is activity going on in the old PW on Lake Murray Blvd. I asked someone who worked at neighboring business who was going in and he said he had heard a rumor that it was going to be a Hamericks

I'm very surprized that the Kmart on Ft. Jackson Blvd. isnt slated to be closed..it's very outdated and old. There's only SO much one can do with that old building.

@Andrew- The WSJ predicted last June that Sears would be history by 2013.

After looking at this list it appears that the affected store Tom mentioned is Sears #2365: Sumter Mall (from my list earlier). One article I found in the search results while looking for the above article wonders if it's the beginning of the end for the once-iconic brand?? btw I misrepresented Kmart #4041 (4400 Ft. Jackson Blvd.) it should be Kmart #4043 (just to clear the air)

The Sears on Broad Street in Sumter was the only SC store on the list of 79 Sears and K-Mart stores slated for closing in 2012 that was released today.
