As I recall it, OS/2 was originally a Microsoft&IBM project to take full advantage of the Intel 80286 hardware which Windows 3.1 did not do (being basically a visual shell on top of DOS). Unfortunately, Microsoft pulled out and while IBM got a good system eventually, the 286 hardware was so strange that even a good system couldn't do too much with it, and by the time IBM got OS/2 Warp running well on 386+ systems, Microsoft had eaten their lunch with Windows-95 (in spite of the fact that *it* was still just a shell on top of DOS).

OS/2 is one of the great "what if"s of computer history. It did get taken up to some extent for embedded systems. I recall going to the BOA ATM in the Five Points Food Lion parking lot once right after a severe thunderstorm. I watched the ATM reboot, and it was OS/2...

I use to help out at PC Corner when I was in HS (they were next to Office Max behind Columbia Mall). Saad and Mike were the most friendliest guys you would ever want to meet! I bought every part I could imagine for all my computer stuff.

They had no competition really. I love the comfort of needing a part and they were there for you. Now ONCE AGAIN Columbia NE area, we have nothing. I do not recommend Geek Squad not even to take out your trash.

There is a nice place further down two notch, iDavid Computers. They have a very friendly staff and their turn around time is fast. They just do not house parts like PC Corner did.
