In its most recent run, did this theater have digital projectors or was it still running 35mm? When it ran the free movies on Thursdays, was permission actually granted by studios? Is the theater still owned by someone?

Hi all,

I was an Assistant Manager of this building when it was under Phoenix Theatres... I worked at Pastime and Columbiana Grand on the floor, and this building was the first that I had the opportunity to manage (later down the road I was Senior Manager for AMC in the Boston area). I can tell you this theatre had a wonderful history - very rich - you could really feel the years of patronage in this building.

Unfortunately, due to Sandhills up the street and not having the latest technology, our sales declined, and the company pulled out... And as they were pulling out, we were left with less and less money and the operation suffered. I tried to reopen it myself with a colleague, but it never came to be... I applaud all efforts to reopen this theatre and hope it can become great once again.

Awwww. I have always loved going to this theater. We were just here 2 weeks ago. I remeber going to 2, 3, and 4 movies in one day ( a real movie day) because i could afford it here. It was close and descent priced. ( unfortunately, probably why they had to close =( ). I only found this site because I was looking to take my daughter here to the movies today. I have seen the theater change hands a few times. I guess we will wait for the next owners to try again. We will miss y'all.

How about let's start a new thread under, let's say the "personalities" category? It could be titled Jonathan Frid, Dark Shadows or Movie Remakes We Hate in Advance. Anyway, we seem to be piling on the Cola. Theater post to excess.
So, let's continue this DS discussion there.

Speaking of the old series, it was produced on such a tight budget that they didn't do retakes unless they had to. So it wasn't unusual to see something flubbed onscreen. Unless it was something they couldn't recover from, they just kept on a-taping. Here's probably one of the best known flubs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W0aQEgD5zA
